Building in Terlingua - Energy Efficient & Solar Homes and Buildings

ADOBE WORKSHOP !  in Terlingua, Texas.   Adobe workshop is something we are working on happening soon, perhaps in the early spring.  If you'd like to be kept informed, and perhaps participate, please leave us your email and phone number at mailto:mail@terlinguacitylimits.com

Here's a link to a good stabilized adobe block formula

The following thumbnails will enlarge to share some of Terlingua's, Big Bend area's, desert adapted buildings.  Wunderlich's, Moore's,  and Kern's are featured below, and more will be shown soon.

Wunderlich building:   The wall facing the East, also the highest wall  is 15 feet high.  The above ground walls are made of adobe brick "14" thick, and the under ground walls are concrete block and rock, being 18 inches thick.     All energy is supplied with Solar panels and battery stored energy, and gas heating and cooking.   Needs little cooling in summer, and heat in winter because of the massive earth insulation.

KERNS' BUILDING.    This Egyptian style adobe building and roof is completely constructed with adobe blocks.    Kerns organized a workshop from the making of adobe block to completing the entire structure.   Simone Swan brought this type of building to Big Bend,  having studied with the author of the book Architecture for the Poor, in Egypt.    A lovely site to see on the desert's horizon.

MOORE's   Solar and Wind Generated home
Marbert lives with enough solar and wind generated energy that one would use from a city power plant.    For about the same cost that Rio Grande Electric charges for installing four electric power poles, he has his own power plant, with no monthly bills, and no poles obstructing his views.
